Canine Companions visit Rimer CLC
Posted on 04/19/2018
Rimer CLC's 3rd grade was visited by two different service dogs. "Gozon", a Canine Companion dog, is being raised by Staicey McGinnis Scholtz. Staicey will raise the pup for the first 18 months and train it using standard commands. She also takes Gozon to various environments so that he gets accustomed to functioning in various situations. At the end of the 18 months, Gozon will go off to "Doggie College" to advance his training. During this time, he will learn commands that will help him assist disabled people. Eventually, he will graduate from Doggie College and be assigned to an individual that needs his help.
Mary Jane McGinnis and her dog Canto visit with the children
Staicey's Mom, Mary Jane brought her dog Canto. Canto is a therapy dog and is part of Akron Children's Hospital Doggie Brigade. These dogs must pass specific tests so that they are able to visit children that are in the hospital.
